Private Jet for Fashion Week: Milan, Paris, and Beyond
The Event
Fashion month is one of the most demanding travel calendars in any industry. Twice a year — February/March for fall/winter and September/October for spring/summer — the global fashion ecosystem migrates across four cities in rapid succession: New York, London, Milan, and Paris.
Each city hosts 5–7 days of shows, presentations, and showroom appointments. The overlap between cities is tight, with as little as one day between London's closing shows and Milan's opening. For designers presenting collections, buyers placing orders, and editors covering shows for publication, missing a connection is not an inconvenience — it is a career-affecting problem.
The fashion audience is also uniquely visual and brand-conscious. Arrival logistics are not just about efficiency; they are part of the narrative. How you arrive communicates status. Private aviation is not a luxury in this context — it is an operational requirement for anyone operating at the top of the industry.
Getting There by Private Jet
The four fashion capitals each have established private aviation infrastructure:
- New York — Teterboro (TEB) is the default for private jets serving Manhattan, with 5 FBOs within the airport perimeter. Westchester County (HPN) provides a northern alternative for those based in Connecticut or Westchester.
- London — London Luton (LTN) and Farnborough (FAB) handle the bulk of private fashion week traffic. Farnborough is exclusively business aviation and offers the most seamless experience. Biggin Hill (BQH) serves as an overflow option south of the city.
- Milan — Milan Linate (LIN) is the most convenient for the city center and the fashion district. Milano Malpensa (MXP) handles larger aircraft and has SEA Prime, a modern private terminal.
- Paris — Paris Le Bourget (LBG) is Europe's busiest business aviation airport and the natural gateway for fashion week. During peak show days, Le Bourget handles over 150 private movements daily.
The critical route during fashion month is the London–Milan–Paris triangle. Flight times are short (1.5–2 hours), making same-day roundtrips feasible when schedules collide. Many industry professionals charter a light jet for the full two-week Milan/Paris window and keep it on standby for ad-hoc movements.
What It Costs
Intra-European fashion week routes are among the most efficient private jet use cases due to short distances and high time savings:
- Light jet, London to Milan (1.5 hrs): $10,000 – $16,000 one-way
- Light jet, Milan to Paris (1.5 hrs): $9,000 – $15,000 one-way
- Midsize jet, New York to London (7 hrs): $55,000 – $85,000 one-way
- Multi-leg package, London–Milan–Paris (2 weeks, light jet on standby): $60,000 – $100,000
The multi-leg standby model is popular among fashion houses and magazine teams. Rather than booking individual flights, a single aircraft and crew are retained for the duration, available within 2 hours of a call. This eliminates the risk of unavailability during peak show transitions and allows for spontaneous itinerary changes.
Timing Your Flight
Fashion week timing is dictated by the show schedule, which is published 4–6 weeks in advance:
- New York → London transition: Depart New York on the evening of the last NYFW show day. Overnight flight arrives London early morning, fresh for the first London shows.
- London → Milan: The tightest transition. Often just one day between London's closing and Milan's opening. An early morning departure from Farnborough lands at Linate by noon.
- Milan → Paris: Slightly more breathing room (1–2 days). Many depart Milan on Saturday and arrive in Paris for Sunday rest before Monday shows.
